Leadership
Vivian Chang is a pianist, educator, and arts leader whose work is dedicated to expanding access to exceptional music education and performance. She serves as Artist Faculty in Juilliard’s K–12 Department and Piano Lead for Summer Performing Arts with Juilliard. As founder of Vivian Chang Studios, she directs a vibrant piano program serving students in the Washington, D.C., area and across the United States and internationally.
From 2025–2026, Vivian served as Program Director of Adamant Music School, where she recruited an internationally distinguished piano faculty and helped double enrollment and nearly triple revenue in one year. Previously, as Piano Chair of Pixical, she helped establish a new educational program, hired and trained 25 piano faculty members, and supported the enrollment of more than 350 piano students. During the pandemic, she created innovative online offerings that engaged more than 40 artists and 200 students. A dedicated mentor, she has guided students to leading universities, many pursuing music alongside other academic fields.
Vivian made her solo debut with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra at age sixteen and has enjoyed a wide-ranging career as a chamber musician and collaborative pianist. A core member of the ASCAP/NEA Award-winning Chameleon Arts Ensemble for more than 25 years, she has performed at the Kennedy Center, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the 92nd Street Y, Alice Tully Hall, the Museum of Modern Art, Taiwan National Hall, and venues throughout Europe. She has also served as a staff pianist at The Juilliard School, an official pianist for Juilliard entrance auditions, and a collaborator for performances presented by the Marilyn Horne Foundation. Her international engagements include residencies at Monteverdi in Tuscany and performances in Switzerland, Italy, Germany, and the Czech Republic.
An advocate for inclusion and accessibility, Vivian has developed interactive music programs for young people with special educational needs and their families. In recognition of this work, she received the Julian Y. Bernstein Distinguished Service Award from the Westchester Jewish Council. She has also collaborated with the Levine School of Music’s Music Therapy Department and performed for patients and families at the NIH Children’s Inn and Safra Family Lodge.
Vivian holds Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School and a Bachelor of Music degree from Oberlin College
